And your descriptions of Stein and Hemingway's photos on the cover are spot on and cracked me up!<br /><br />I think a good number of authors and poets were (and are) insecure about thir talent. Some comments I've read by authors about other authors are just nasty! Stein and Hemingway's friendship surprises me a bit and it sounds like they were kind of irascible with each other. <br /><br />Your question about friendship betwen authors in today's technological society is an interesting one. When I read Joyce Carol Oates memoir/book about her husband's death, she referred to frequent visits to the homes of many authors including Updike, Wroth, Edmund White, Gail Godwin and their visits to her home. But this started years ago. She did also mention 'dashing off emails' of a line or two to these friends daily. <br /><br />I've put this book on my tbr list.
